Rank tracking, done properly

Checked daily, read from the real results page, stored forever — and honest about the difference between what we measure and what Google reports.

What happens when we check a keyword

We ask the right question

Step 1

The keyword is sent with your country and, if you set one, your city or state encoded into the request the way Google itself encodes location. A search from Beirut genuinely returns Beirut's results.

We read until we find you

Step 2

Results are read page by page and each one's domain is matched against yours. We stop the moment we find you. If you are not in the top 100, we say so — rather than guessing.

We record everything

Step 3

Position, the exact URL that ranked, its title, the country, the location, the date — and the complete result set as it stood. That last part is what lets you answer questions months later.

We note your competitors

Step 4

Any competitor domain you have registered gets its position recorded from the same pages, at no extra cost. You are already paying to read them.

Why the URL matters. Knowing you rank fourth is useful. Knowing that the page ranking fourth is your 2019 blog post rather than the product page you optimised is what actually changes what you do next. We store the ranking URL on every single check.

Local results, actually local

"Country-level" tracking is close to useless for a business that serves a city. Search results for plumber in one neighbourhood look nothing like the results two towns over.

  • Set a city or a state per keyword. Not per account, per keyword — so one project can track national terms and local terms side by side.
  • Encoded the way Google encodes it. We pass the location in Google's own location parameter rather than approximating with a proxy in roughly the right country.
  • Recorded on every result. Each stored position carries the location it was measured from, so a historical chart is comparing like with like.
  • Leave it blank for national. A keyword with no location set is tracked at country level, which is exactly right for most terms.

Two independent sources, side by side

The keyword table shows two position columns, and they will not always agree. That is the point.

What we measure What Search Console reports
Source The live results page, read by us Google's own first-party record
Means Where you sit right now, in one place, for one query Your average position across everyone who searched
Good for Day-to-day movement, a specific city, competitor comparison Deep or volatile rankings, real clicks and impressions
Weak at Personalised results; anything below the top 100 Same-day movement; the "average" hides a lot
Costs 1 credit per results page read 1 credit per sync call
When they disagree, look closer. A keyword we report as unranked but Search Console shows at position 34 usually means the ranking is volatile or personalised. A keyword we see at 8 but Search Console averages at 19 usually means you rank well in some locations and badly in others. Neither number is wrong; the gap between them is information you would not have from one source alone.

Running quietly in the background

Daily, automatically

The queue runs on a schedule and works through whatever is due, oldest first. You do not start it, and you do not have to keep a browser tab open.

Hourly on the ones that matter

Flag a keyword for auto-renew and it is re-checked every hour instead of once a day. Useful during a launch or a recovery. Available on Agency and Network.

Or right now, on demand

Every keyword row has an update button for when you cannot wait for the schedule. It runs immediately and writes to the same history.

It will not double-run

Only one sweep runs at a time, and a keyword checked in the last hour is skipped. Your credits are not spent twice on the same answer.

You find out before the client does

Tracking is only worth having if somebody notices when the line moves. Alert rules watch the data and push to wherever your team already is.

  • Ranking drop — beyond a threshold you set, on a project or across everything.
  • Ranking gain — because a win is worth an email too.
  • Lost ranking — a keyword that was ranking and now is not.
  • HTTP error — a tracked page returning something it should not.
  • Search Console traffic drop — on Google's own numbers.
  • Low credit balance — before it interrupts anything.

Delivered to Slack, Discord, Telegram, email or any HTTP endpoint — and always written to your in-app inbox, so nothing is lost if a webhook is down.

What tracking costs

One credit per results page read. A keyword ranking on page one costs 1 credit per check. A keyword that is not ranking has to be read to the full depth, so it costs up to 10. Averaged across a real portfolio, budget about 3 credits per keyword per day.

Which means the plans work out roughly like this:

  • Studio — 250 keywords tracked daily for a month uses roughly 22,500 of its 22,000 credits, leaving about -500 for research, audits and everything else.
  • Agency — 1,000 keywords tracked daily for a month uses roughly 90,000 of its 75,000 credits, leaving about -15,000 for research, audits and everything else.
  • Network — 3,000 keywords tracked daily for a month uses roughly 270,000 of its 200,000 credits, leaving about -70,000 for research, audits and everything else.

Keyword rank tracking questions

The questions we get asked most about how ranking data is collected and what it means.

How often should you check keyword rankings?

Daily is right for most sites. Search results change constantly, and a weekly or monthly check averages away the movement you need to see — including the drop that started three weeks ago. Daily checking also means an alert can reach you the day something breaks, rather than at the end of the month.

How deep should a rank tracker look?

The top 100 results, not the top 10. A keyword sitting at position 47 is not "not ranking" — it is a keyword a few months of work away from page one. Trackers that stop at the first page report that keyword as absent, which hides most of the progress an SEO campaign makes in its first six months.

Can you track Google rankings for a specific city?

Yes. Search results for the same keyword differ substantially between cities, so a national average is close to useless for a local business. Newinterval encodes the location per keyword using Google's own location parameter, so a keyword tracked for Beirut is measured as someone in Beirut would genuinely see it.

Why do my rank tracker and Google Search Console disagree?

Because they measure different things. A rank tracker reads the results page right now from one location; Search Console reports your average position across everyone who searched, over a period. A gap between them usually means the ranking is volatile, personalised, or strong in some locations and weak in others.

How many keywords should I track?

Most small sites need 50 to 150 keywords, and most agencies need a few hundred per client. Track the terms that would actually change your revenue, plus the page-two terms nearest to breaking through. Tracking thousands of irrelevant keywords costs money and buries the signal you are looking for.
